| For over 50 years, Llorens Stained Glass Windows have beautified edifices throughout North America. Illustrated in this site are a few of the hundreds of designs created by artist Joseph LIorens, who, for more than fifty years, has been producing stained glass windows that out-beautify even those created centuries ago to adorn Europe's famed cathedrals. However, instead of getting colors from real jewels, crushed emeralds, rubies, and sapphires, as did those ancient artists, the Llorens Studios obtain just as beautiful and lasting effects, at only a fraction of the cost, from mineral (or earth) colors. Quarried in different parts of the world, those imported mineral colors are ground up and painted on glass which, when fired to 1200 degrees, makes the colors an integral part of the glass itself, and as imperishable.
After the painting is completed, it is disassembled, and the hundreds of pieces of glass are heated until the desired mellow glow is obtained. Those pieces of glass are then assembled, and separated with lead cames, which must be cemented between each piece, no matter how tiny, to make the window strong and waterproof. Depending upon the intricacy of the design and size of the window, this painstaking Llorens process requires from two weeks to six months to complete, and it cannot be hurried, each Llorens window must be absolutely perfect. The result is that windows from the Llorens Stained Glass Studios now adorn more than a thousand churches and other edifices throughout the United States, West Indies, and Mexico. |
